When it comes to green energy, there’s no shortage of inspiring stories and passionate people driving change. We sat down with Paulo and Sergio of Tarefabsoluta to talk about their solar journey, their favorite spots in Tavira, and what makes this sunny town the perfect place to power a more sustainable future.
Q: Tell us a little about yourselves and Tarefabsoluta?
P: I´m Paulo, and I was born and raised in Porto. I spent 20 years living and working in England, which was an incredible experience and really helped me grow both personally and professionally. About six years ago, my wife, family, and I decided to return to Portugal, and we’ve been living in Tavira ever since. It’s been a wonderful decision, and we love the rich culture and beautiful surroundings here. It’s great to be back home with my family, and I’m excited for what the future holds.
S: I’m Sérgio, originally from Lisbon. I’ve been living in Faro for the past six years with my wife and our son. We love the slower pace down here, and it’s been a great place to raise a family.
Q: What inspired you to start Tarefabsoluta, and how did you get involved?
P: What inspired us to start Tarefabsoluta was a combination of experience and timing. For most of my career, I worked as an electrician and solar PV installer, always for other companies. Over the years, I gained a lot of valuable knowledge and skills, but I always had the desire to branch out on my own. Eventually, I felt the time was right to take the leap and create something that reflects my own values and vision. Starting Tarefabsoluta was a natural next step, allowing us to offer quality service and innovative solutions while building something that we can truly call our own.
S: I was a qualified mechanic for most of my life, but I felt it was time for a new direction. I got into solar when Paulo trained me in solar PV while we were working at another company. We shared the same vision, so we decided to start Tarefabsoluta together.
Q: What do you think makes Tavira and the area such a unique place?
P: For me what makes Tavira and the surrounding area so unique is the perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and a relaxed lifestyle. The town itself has a charming, authentic feel with its cobbled streets and beautiful architecture.
S: I think Tavira is a really special place—calm, full of charm, and with a great balance between history and nature. It has a peaceful rhythm that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Q: Do you have a favourite spot in this area that you think more people should know about?
P: My favorite spot would be the far end of the beach on Tavira Island, away from where the ferry drops you off. Just walk east along the shore for a bit—quieter, fewer people, super peaceful. Soft sand, calm water, and that classic Ria Formosa view. Simple and perfect.
S: The Ria Formosa is my favourite spot—it's peaceful, full of natural beauty, and I love kayaking through its calm waters and winding channels.
Q: What’s next for you in the area?
Both: What’s next for us as a company is continuing to deliver high-quality service while staying deeply committed to the details that make solar projects truly efficient and sustainable. We are passionate about helping people transition to clean energy, and focused on growing our knowledge, improving system design and performance, and making solar more accessible for everyone.
Q: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
P: Honest, hard-working and reliable
S: Dedicated, skilled and motivated
Q: What’s your go-to order at a local restaurant or cafe?
P: My go-to order at a café or restaurant would be octopus—especially if it’s grilled or done the traditional Portuguese way
S: My favourite dish would be anything fish—I really enjoy fresh, simple seafood.
Q: If you had a free day to explore or enjoy east Algarve, how would you spend it?
P: I’d start with a slow morning with friends and coffee and then head to one of the town’s cozy restaurants for a delicious meal—definitely with a glass of Portuguese wine. After that, I’d wander through the historic streets and just soak up the relaxed, authentic vibe of Tavira.
S: If I had a free day to explore, I’d spend it sightseeing around Tavira—wandering through the old town, visiting the castle, and finishing the day with drinks and tapas.
Q: What’s a hidden talent or fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
P: I love to cook and enjoy spending time in the kitchen, experimenting with different flavors, spices, and ingredients to make food that’s tasty and fun to try..
S: A fun fact about me is that I love fishing—it's something that really helps me unwind. I'm happiest out on the water, there is something about the calm and the connection with nature that I really enjoy.
In conclusion, Tarefabsoluta continues to lead the charge toward a cleaner, more sustainable future through innovation, dedication, and a deep commitment to solar energy solutions. Their vision is clear: to empower communities with renewable energy that doesn’t just power homes, but protects the planet for generations to come.
